About The WHTA Docuseries
In 2016, Austin Harrouff was a seemingly normal, 19-year-old star athlete born and raised in the affluent waterfront town of Jupiter, Florida. Raised alongside his younger sisters Haley by both his parents., dentist Dr. Wade Harrouff and a local pharmacist Mina Harrouff. He grew up fishing and boating with his family and excelled as an athlete competing in both football and wrestling during high school. He was excelling in his pre-med studies at Florida State University and was widely considered your typical “frat boy” at the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. Despite his good grades and his passion for fitness, friends, and family, something strange was beginning to happen to Austin.
On August 15, 2016, while at home for summer break from FSU, Austin had dinner with his family at a local sports bar and restaurant. Austin was acting “strange” and eventually becomes upset and leaves on foot from dinner. Headed along dark and quiet roads filled with beautiful homes and neatly manicured lawns, Austin heads to his father’s home only just a few short miles away. An hour later a 911 call is placed by a local resident, Jeff Fisher, reporting that he has just witnessed a violent assault at his neighbor’s house and that he had been stabbed while trying to intervene.
Sheriff’s officers are immediately dispatched to a violent and gruesome scene finding Austin on top of the now deceased, John Stevens. Austin is growling like an animal and biting at the victim’s face and body. It would eventually take a total of four officers from two different agencies, tasers, multiple kicks to the head, and two attacks from a K9 officer to finally pull Austin from his victim. The beaten and stabbed body of Michelle Nischon, John’s wife, was located nearby. With human flesh and hair in Austin’s mouth and teeth, Austin makes his first and only statement to the police that he “had eaten something bad”, and needed to go to the hospital. The officers questioned Austin about what he had eaten that was so bad, and he simply replied “humans.”
The WHTA docuseries examines what happened leading up to this fateful night and if it could have been prevented. What could have caused Austin to act in this way? Many people believe it was drugs, some believe it was demonic possession and some think it was mental illness.
